Grow Women’s Health Story

gro.w women’s health in Canberra was created to promote greater awareness and knowledge regarding women’s health and pelvic floor conditions. As women, our bodies undergo many changes which can impact function and lifestyle. Many of these changes, whether they be injuries, pregnancy changes, birth experiences, postnatal recovery, hormonal changes or our physical and mental growth, can be better navigated and managed with the right information and support. Our goal is to enable women to self-manage their recovery and provide them with education to prevent future dysfunction.

gro.w was started by sisters Juanita and Julia, who are both passionate about the care women receive throughout their lives. They each spent several years working in the public and private sectors, before deciding to create a space that is specifically targeted to help women.

Meet the gro.w team

Julia – Physiotherapist

Julia graduated from the Australian National University with a Bachelor of Medical Science before completing her Masters of Physiotherapy at the University of Canberra. Early in her career she developed a passion for pelvic floor physiotherapy and completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy through the University of Melbourne. To compliment her unique skill set Julia has also completed the extensive Australian Physiotherapy Pilates Institute training and is a certified clinical Pilates instructor. Julia has a strong passion for providing women with the information and knowledge to prevent or cure many of the common symptoms they can face throughout life.

When Julia isn’t working or studying she is spending time with her family, tracking down the best pastries and coffees Canberra has on offer, trekking up and down the mountains around this beautiful city, or enjoying a wine with friends.

Juanita – Physiotherapist

At the ripe old age of 13, Juanita decided she would be a Physiotherapist. Once school was out of the way, Juanita completed a Bachelor of Human Nutrition and a Masters of Physiotherapy at the University of Canberra. As a new physio recruit who grew up playing sport, Juanita imagined she would aspire to be a Sports Physio, but soon realised her passion lay in pelvic floor physiotherapy.  She went on to complete a Postgraduate Certificate in Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy through the University of Melbourne.  Complimenting this, Juanita has also completed her Pilates training through the Australian Physiotherapy Pilates Institute. Through her own experience in sport and her work in pelvic floor physiotherapy, Juanita has a passion for providing women with the information and support needed to manage their physical function and health through anything life throws at them.

When Juanita isn’t talking about all things pelvic floor or injury management, she’s running on the trails around Canberra, walking her giant fur child or chasing her three small human ones.

Andrea – Physiotherapist
Andrea graduated from the Australian Catholic University in Melbourne with a Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science before completing her Masters of Physiotherapy in 2010 at the University of Queensland. After spending several years on the acute wards in public hospitals, Andrea discovered a love for women’s health and pelvic floor physiotherapy and completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy through the University of Melbourne. With over ten years in women’s health, Andrea has experience treating a range of conditions including complex presentations. Currently Andrea is working in one of the public hospitals in women’s health treating pre and postnatal women and gynaecological conditions. Andrea has a strong passion for providing women with the information and knowledge when recovering from birth and helping women with pelvic floor symptoms that may arise throughout the stages of life.

In her spare time, you will find Andrea spending time with her two gorgeous girls, relaxing on the beach or getting out of Canberra for a weekend escape with her family.

Lara – Physiotherapist

Lara graduated with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from the University of Canberra in 2016 and initially followed her love of elite sport by working in a musculoskeletal clinic.  After a couple of years of this work, Lara discovered that she had a passion for Women’s Health and since then has dedicated the rest of her career to this field.  Lara has completed many APA courses, WHTA courses, as well as a Professional Certificate in the Conservative Management of Pelvic Organ Prolapse, through the University of South Australia in 2022.  Lara has completed her pelvic floor and abdominal wall study with Clinical Pilates training including both APPI and Studio Rehab Comprehensive Polestar training.  She is proficient across all equipment including mat, reformer, trapeze, and wunda-chair.

Lara has recently returned from 3 years living in Sydney and working in specialist women’s health clinics there.  She is passionate about working with patients experiencing complex pelvic pain with conditions such as endometriosis, and helping women through their peri and post-menopausal life.  Lara enjoys treating pregnancy related pain and doing birth prep with her patients as well as complete rehabilitation of mum’s, allowing them to return to whatever exercise/careers they wish to pursue.  It is important to Lara that her patients are not just treated as a pelvic floor – but rather as a complete body (and mind!).  Lara is proficient in pessary assessment and fitting.

Lara is excited to begin working again after having some time off to have her first baby – there’s nothing like lived experience for understanding what patients are going through!

Casey – Physiotherapist
Casey’s interest and motivation to become a physiotherapist stems back to her days as an elite gymnast at the Australian Institute of sport where she trained for several years.  Following her gymnastic career and school life, Casey went on to complete a Bachelor of Applied Science and a Masters of Physiotherapy at the University of Canberra.

Since graduating, Casey has worked in the private sector in Canberra where she gained experience and skills in treating both the general and sporting population.  Complimenting this experience, Casey went on to complete her Post Graduate of Sport Physiotherapy through La Trobe University.  Casey is passionate about returning her clients to full function, providing them with the information and support required to enable a return to participation in hobbies, exercise and sport. She has a strong interest in post-operative rehabilitation, treating overuse injuries, in particular tendon pain and injuries relating to the shoulder, back, pelvis, hip and lower limbs.

Casey is incredibly thorough in all she does and this extends outside the clinic with her renovation projects and coffee habits.  When she isn’t treating you will find Casey enjoying a wine with friends, spending time with her growing family or escaping to the beach.
Ali – Practice Manager

Ali is our practice manager and receptionist. She has a unique way of making all our clients feel right at home. She brings a wealth of experience to this role having worked for several years in various healthcare settings as a practice manager. Behind the scenes Ali keeps things running smoothly and is dedicated to ensuring everyone has a fantastic experience at Grow. She is impressively organised, hardworking and kind and is a warm, friendly welcome when you walk into our clinic.

Outside of the clinic, Ali is busy building a new home for her family, keeping up with her two beautiful girls, and always planning the next weekend escape!
